Activities & Groups for Children & Young People.

Gillingham Baptist Church have a number of activities and organisations for Children and Young People.  These are as follows:

Crèche.

For children up to 2 years old

Sunday School.

This is for children up to 11 years and is held on Sunday mornings, except on the first Sunday of each month when there is a Family & Parade Service.  There are three age groups:

  • ‘Sparklers’     (2 to 4 years)

  • ‘Super Stars’ (5 to 7 years)

  • ‘X-Stream'     (8 to 11 years)

On the 2nd Sunday in each month they go direct to Sunday School at 10.30am, but on the other Sundays they join in with the rest of the congregation for first part of Morning Worship before leaving for their own classes.

Bible Class.

The Junior Bible Class (11 to 14 years) & the Senior Bible Class (15 to 17 years) currently meet together.

They meet on Sunday mornings, except on the first Sunday of each month when there is a Family and Parade Service.  Most other Sundays they join in with the rest of the congregation for the first part of Morning Worship before leaving for their own classes.

Youth Group.

This is for young people in school years 9+.  They usually meet during school term time at 7.30pm on Thursdays, for games and other social activities.

Boys' Brigade.                                                                                                                                           TOP

This is a uniformed organisation for boys from 5 to 19 years old.  They meet during school term time on Friday evenings.  The sections are as follows:

Anchor Boys (5 to 8 years) meet at 4.45pm.

There’s lots to do on a Friday night.  We play games, do craft, learn important things like road safety and eventually go for the Anchor Achievement badge.

Junior Section (8 to 11 years) meet at 6.00pm.

Going for gold is the theme for this section as the juniors do their badge work.  They also do craft, games, word-searches and lots of other fun activities.  There is also the annual bible/fun quiz, arts and crafts event, and weekend JS camp in the summer at Honeyhill.

Company (11 to 14 years) meet at 7.45pm.                          Senior Section (15 to 19 years) meet at 7.45pm.

A usual night contains a mixture of badge classes, drill, band or games.  They work towards a number of badges from interest, adventure, physical, leadership to targets.  Once these have been achieved there is then the option of gaining the Presidents and Queens badge.

The current Captain is Mr Ken Davey.

Girls' Brigade.

This is a uniformed organisation for girls from 5 to 19 years old.  They meet during school term time on Friday evenings.  The sections are as follows:

Explorers (5 to 8 years) meet at 6.00pm.

Aptly named because they are always learning and experiencing new skills.  Fun and games, quizzes, craft work and ‘story time’ all form part of their weekly activities and badge work.

Juniors (8 to 11 years) meet at 6.00pm.

Like the younger section Juniors too enjoy having fun, playing games, taking part in competitions and doing their badge work (e.g. craft, skipping, dance, cookery and raising money).  During the evening they also have a `prayer and share’ slot.

Seniors (11 to 14) meet at 7.45pm.                                        Brigaders (15 to 19) meet at 7.45pm.

These sections also have a wide range of badge work to choose from (e.g. craft work, dance, first aid, computer skills, flower arranging, and Bible study).  However they also have the opportunity to `chill out’ and chat after a busy week at school or college.  Brigaders also have the opportunity to work towards the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme.

The current acting Captain is Jane Martin.
